The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has pledged $1,000 for every goal that Accra Hearts of Oak scores in their highly anticipated President’s Cup clash against Asante Kotoko.
The minister made the announcement during a visit to the team’s training base at the Kpobiman Sports Complex on Friday, where she encouraged the players to give their all for both the club and the region.
According to her, the pledge is meant to motivate the Phobians to secure victory in what is always one of Ghana’s most fiercely contested football fixtures. She explained that the gesture is also a response to reports that some Kumasi-based supporters had promised a smaller amount to Kotoko for each goal scored.
“The people from Kumasi are saying that for every goal scored, they’ll get $200,” the minister remarked. “But for Greater Accra, every goal scored by Hearts of Oak will earn you $1,000. So make sure you win this match.”
Ocloo, who was accompanied by several Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), expressed her confidence that Hearts of Oak would rise to the occasion, adding that fans both home and abroad were counting on them to deliver.
“People are even flying in from the States to watch this game,” she said. “We are all behind you, and we expect nothing but victory. If you don’t beat Kotoko, we are finished!”
The delegation also made a cash donation of GH₵20,000 to support the team’s preparation for the big match. The financial incentive, combined with the minister’s motivational message, has been described by fans as a timely morale booster for the Accra giants.
The 2025 President’s Cup — an annual fixture played in honour of Ghana’s sitting president — is set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium. The match remains one of the most prestigious events on the domestic football calendar, symbolizing both national pride and the fierce sporting rivalry between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
As kickoff approaches, anticipation continues to build across the country. With a $1,000-per-goal promise on the table, Hearts of Oak will not only be playing for glory but also for a financial reward that underscores the region’s unwavering support.
