fter Tribal Comment on Bawumia, Kwaku Asante-Boateng Declares His Support for Kennedy Agyapong

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante-Boateng, has sparked renewed political discussion within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following his recent show of support for presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

This comes just a week after the MP courted controversy for making a tribal remark against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and fellow flagbearer hopeful of the NPP — a comment that drew sharp condemnation from the party’s leadership.

According to a report, the NPP issued a public statement distancing itself from Asante-Boateng’s comments, describing them as “unfortunate, divisive, and inconsistent with the unity the party stands for.” The party emphasized that no member should campaign along tribal lines.

In a new development, a video circulating online — and confirmed by GhanaWeb — shows the Asante Akim South MP rallying delegates and supporters to back Kennedy Agyapong in the party’s upcoming flagbearer contest.

In the footage, Asante-Boateng praises Agyapong’s leadership style, describing him as a “bold, truthful, and results-oriented” leader capable of revitalizing the NPP ahead of the 2024 general elections.

While some social media users have referred to Kennedy Agyapong as Asante-Boateng’s “in-law,” no credible source has confirmed any family relationship between the two politicians.

The MP’s switch in tone — from criticizing Bawumia to endorsing Agyapong — has stirred conversations about factionalism within the NPP, as the party gears up for its decisive flagbearer elections.
