New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed that his decision to enter politics was driven by a genuine desire to serve the people of Ghana and not to enrich himself.
Dr. Bawumia made this statement during his campaign tour in Amenfi West in the Western Region, where he addressed NPP delegates and supporters as part of his nationwide campaign engagements.
According to him, leadership should be rooted in selfless service, accountability, and impact—not personal gain.
“I entered politics to serve the people, not to enrich myself,” Dr. Bawumia declared.
“My greatest joy comes from seeing how the policies we have implemented are transforming lives. I am not in politics for money — I am here to make a difference in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.”
He highlighted his record of promoting transparency and efficiency in governance through his digitalization agenda, which he said has improved public service delivery and reduced corruption.
Dr. Bawumia cited the Mobile Money Interoperability Project as an example of prudent leadership, explaining that when his team took office, a proposed contract under the previous government was pegged at US$1.2 billion, but under his supervision, the same project was executed at just US$4.5 million.
“When you are in politics to serve, you make decisions that save the country money and benefit the people — not yourself,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks come as part of his ongoing efforts to connect with party delegates and the wider Ghanaian public, emphasizing themes of integrity, service, and value for money in governance.
As the NPP’s flagbearer race intensifies, Dr. Bawumia continues to project himself as a visionary and transformational leader committed to innovation, efficiency, and the welfare of the Ghanaian people.
